 | Sheryll Murray welcomes decision to scrap deadline for Morley Tamblyn closure |
 |
Cornwall Council this week announced it will instead set up a panel to examine how services at Morley Tamblyn Lodge – one of three in adult day care centres in the county currently under threat – could be provided in the future. The other two are Blantire in St Austell and Murdoch Trevithick in Redruth.
In response Sheryll, the Conservative Prospective MP for South East Cornwall, spoke of her “delight” at the decision, and paid tribute to local campaigners who have been fighting for the centre to remain open.
Sheryll said: “This decision is really good news and shows that the hard work and dedication shown by the local community has paid off.
“I am so pleased that transparent consultation can now take place without the threat of closure hanging over everyone.
“I have been happy to lend my support over this issue, but it is down to the dedication of the carers and the hard work of Cllr Janet Powell, Conservative Member on Cornwall Council for Liskeard North that this result has been achieved.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to everyone for their achievements so far.”
The decision to close the centre had been taken by the previous Lib-Dem lead County Council.
In response, users of the service, along with their carers, launched a campaign to keep the facility which provides a vital service for adults with learning disabilities, open.
