Mark Prisk MP meets local business representatives during visit to South East Cornwall

MARK PRISK MP has met with representatives from a number of businesses in South East Cornwall to discuss the issues and concerns they are facing in the current economic climate.

Mark, the Shadow Minister for Cornwall and Shadow Business Minster, joined local campaigner Sheryll Murray for the visit to Lostwithiel, on Wednesday, November 18th.

Having been welcomed by Vic May, Mayor of Lostwithiel, Mark was shown around the Duchy Palace by Jan Clarke of the Cornwall Building Preservation Trust.

Mark and Sheryll then met with a variety of local business representatives including Mike Dobbie of Lostwithiel Business Group; Christopher and Rebecca Bettin of Marbel toys; Brian Smith of Lanhydrock Accountancy Practice; and Tim Reed of Tredethick Farm Cottages.

During the meeting, those present were able to discuss with Mark ideas and initiatives to help overcome present economic difficulties in sustaining viable businesses, which Sheryll insists are “essential to the future prosperity of South East Cornwall”.

Following the meeting, Mark and Sheryll visited the Trewithen Cornish Farm Dairy, before travelling to Lanteglos for a tour of the boatyard on Polruan’s harbour side, hosted by father and son team Allen and Paul Toms.

Speaking after the event Sheryll, the Conservative Prospective MP for South East Cornwall said: “Both Mark and I were pleased to have the opportunity to discuss both business problems and solutions with so many leaders of the local business community.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of Cornish communities.  We must re-create the conditions where they can grow in order that many more of our young people can have good jobs and can afford to live locally.”
