Sheryll Murray is selected as PPC for S.E. Cornwall

Sheryll Murray selected for South East Cornwall
At a meeting last night (30th October 2006) of around 70 party members at Liskeard Town Hall, Sheryll Murray was selected as the Parliamentary Spokesman to fight the next General Election for the Conservative Party.

Conservatives in the  South East Cornwall constituency opted to select using the Big Event method.  This was the first such meeting in Cornwall under the party’s new selection guidelines.

Sheryll says “ I am proud to have been given the opportunity to represent the Conservative Party and I am looking forward to the challenge of fighting the South East Cornwall seat. My campaign begins now.  I want to help the people of South East Cornwall and no problem is too large or small for me to offer assistance.  It is time for South East Cornwall to be taken seriously in Westminster and I intend to bring issues to the attention of our Shadow Team. Only the official opposition are taken seriously by the Government.”

Biography

Sheryll Murray was born in Millbrook. She went to Millbrook School and Torpoint Comprehensive.  Her mother’s family came from Millbrook and her paternal grandfather was Frank Hickman who owned the Tamar Baker in Calstock, more recently known as the “Old Bakery Bistro”.  Her father went to work on his Uncle’s Ferry Boats in Millbrook where he skippered the Cremyll Ferry and River trips up and down the Tamar.

Sheryll is married to local Trawler Owner/Skipper Neil Murray and their boat is moored in Looe Harbour.  She represented fishermen from the South West for more than a decade at Local, National and European level before turning her expertise to Local Government.

Sheryll Murray was the County Councillor for Rame and is currently the District Councillor for Millbrook. She is leader of the Conservative Group on Caradon District Council.  It was Sheryll’s idea to introduce Wedding Ceremonies into Mount Edgcumbe House raising capital for improvements to the Local Authority owned property without additional burden on the Tax payer.
